Policy Picnic 12pm: Should Metro buy up more private land for its Greenspaces program?
March 27 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Join John Charles and Miranda Bonifield for the Cascade Policy Institute Policy Picnic.
In 1995 Portland regional voters approved a bond measure authorizing Metro to borrow $136 million to purchase lands for nature preserves. In 2006, voters approved additional borrowing in the amount of $227 million. Now Metro plans to refer another bond measure in May that would be on the November ballot. Cascade Policy Institute President John A. Charles, Jr. will discuss the history of this program and explain why most Metro properties are not accessible to the public. Research Associate Miranda Bonifield will summarize the results of recent Metro strategy sessions and discuss the property tax implications of the anticipated bond measure.
